Slater Memorial Park

The movement for the first major park in Pawtucket was started in 1894, with the purchase of an estimated197 acres of land known as the Daggett Farm, located at the end of Brook Street (now Armistice Boulevard). The idea of developing the land for park purposes, once known as Daggett Park, was first met with opposition. It was not until 1903 that an appropriation for constructing an access roadway was received and it was decided to retain the natural lines of the landscape. Most of the Park’s buildings that we know today, including the bandstand and the Slater Park Boathouse, were constructed during those years.

Interest in the Park diminished during the post- World War 1 years but was revived with a second era of public attention as a result of the positive by-product of the Depression and its associated cheap and abundant labor source. A third era began in 1973 with the creation of the Division of Parks and Recreation. In 1976, the Park was added to the National Register of H

Permits are issued for rain or shine and are non-reimbursable.
The Parks & Recreation Division reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a permit when conditions can cause damage to the venue or when health and safety of participants is threatened due to impending conditions.

** EXCEEDING CAPACITY **-
A copy of this picnic permit must be in the possession of the Applicant on the day of rental. The Applicant is to ensure that the information provided is correct and that the permit is presented at the request of an employee of the City of Pawtucket and/or Pawtucket Police Department on the day of the event.
Any inaccurate information provided regarding attendance or violation of the following rules may result in revocation of this permit and stoppage of your event.
PATRONS WILL BE ASKED TO VACATE PARK FACILITIES IMMEDIATELY. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AND THE PERMIT HOLDER MAY BE SUBJECT TO ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE FEES.
